Archival Pigment Prints
My photographs are printed using the giclée process: archival ink + archival paper.
The ink used is pigment ink. Pigments – unlike dye – are naturally UV-resistant. The pigments embed themselves into the fibers of the paper, and the carrier liquid evaporates. This results in a smear-resistant print that works excellently on matte paper.
The paper is 100% cotton rag. Cotton rag paper has a smooth matte finish and is fade-resistant. Rag fibers are longer fibers compared to cotton linters and provide extra strength, resulting in a heavy-weight paper.
The combination of pigment ink + cotton rag paper provides a more painterly look and feel to the print, while preserving the rich detail.
